The unwelcome mat.<\/b><\/p>\n

Ice breaker : What jobs make you unwelcome at parties? Have you experienced suddenly feeling \u2018unwelcome\u2019.  <\/span>Would you use a \u2018welcome\/go away\u2019 mat ?  <\/span>When have you felt welcomed ? <\/span><\/p>\n

Pick out a role : Zaacheaus (the hated, corrupt one), The crowd, Jesus<\/p>\n

Read Luke 16:1-9 – imagine what it\u2019s like to be the welcomed, the unwelcomed, or the unwelcoming?  <\/span>At the end ask people what it felt like ?<\/p>\n

When are we welcoming ? When are we unwelcoming ? What are our hidden standards ?<\/p>\n

Luke 4:18-19 can be translated as  <\/span>\u201cThe Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me<\/p>\n

to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners<\/p>\n

and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord\u2019s welcome.<\/p>\n

  <\/span>How is that different the to the year of the Lord\u2019s favour ? Is the good news of Jesus \u201cYou are welcome ?\u201d.<\/p>\n

In the 2nd story the people of Jerusalem put on a welcome for Jesus. Who doesn\u2019t welcome Jesus ? Why ? <\/span><\/p>\n

This welcome appears to have a series of catches. Who do they think they are welcoming ?What is it that eventually makes Jesus unwelcome  <\/span>do you think ?<\/p>\n

(if Luke 19:7 a clue ? What about the temple money changers ?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s easy to welcome someone, until that means you have to make changes.<\/p>\n

What changes have you made since welcoming Jesus ? Are there more changes you feel called to ?<\/p>\n

This chain of hospitality and welcome continues. One writer says :\u201d The ministry of Jesus can be captured in the phrase \u201cDivine Hospitality to the stranger and sinner\u201d.\u201d,-What do you reckon ?<\/p>\n

What does that look like to us?<\/p>\n
